The three I mentioned are all derivatives of the 375 H&H - which is as you say much longer
The three are very close in length ( COAL ) - 63 - 65 mm ( 300 WM is 66mm )
Their web diameter ( area just above the belt ) is the same = 13.03mm
They all have the same shoulder angle = 50deg
The 308 Norma Magnum and the 300 Win Mag will be very close in neck diameter = both 30 Cal although the 308NM has a longer neck than the 300WM.

It is the diameter of the case body above the web up to the beginning of the shoulder that I am interested in
The way in which the diameter of the ( factory ) case changes from 13.03 to 12.47 - in the case of the 338 WM
Then how this is reflected in the provided clearance in the chamber = a fired unsized case

You could use the difference in diamter between the base and shoulder of a 300 SAUM, which applied to your belted magnum case will give the same taper.

Is your goal something close to or between a 300 SAUM and 300 RUM ?

Both of those use a magnum bolt face, and will improve case capacity over any belted magnum of the same length.

Measuring fired and sized brass is not more insightful than the reamer prints. If you want to see the difference in chambers, the reamer prints will show.

I understand that sometimes a rifle is built for no reason other than wanting to build it, but is there a particular purpose you're aiming towards ?

It's not necessary to measure fired brass, there is about 1 thou clearance between the fired brass and a chamber in any caliber.

Measuring a piece of fired brass just tells you about the chamber it was fired in. Brass fired in another rifle may measure differently.

Yes there is spring-back of the brass - which can vary according to brass manufacturer
FL sizing dies will adhere to SAAMI -or- CIP - a new factory case should also adhere to those standards bodies
I am interested in a fired case - the dimensions - which as you say will reflect the chamber it was fired in
I am interested in a FL sized case which should return the case to factory spec - depending of course how the die was cut

I understand that there are a lot of variables I am just looking for guidelines from real world examples
The best scenario would be new factory brass - to measure - and then a fired untouched case to also measure - then a FL sized case in a normal standard die

I have worked out the clearances between cartridge and chamber from the data provided by SAAMI / CIP
It is close = 0.02 / 0.04 mm in some areas larger in others = 0.61mm ( case length )

I would like to check this with actual physical cases.

30 Newton brass can be made from sized down .375 Ruger.

I have a box of twenty S&B .308 unfired cases to swap

These were full cartridges - I pulled the bullets

The 338 Rem Mag is a necked up 7mm Rem Mag, with no changes.

I can send you five each of 308 Norma and 7mm Rem Mag, and five 7mm Rem Mag necked up to 338. I don't have a 338 sizing die, they will need to be sized in one after necking up.

I don't have a 308, so I can't use that brass.
