Hoe werk geweerkruit?

Ek verstaan 'n fyn, dun korreltjie (MS 200 / MP200 / S221) wat vinnig ontbrand vir n handwapen. Net so verstaan ek n groter, growwe korrel (S365 / S385) in 'n groot dop.

Waarom gebruik n mens dan S365 in 'n 243? Hoër druk, of wat?

Dieselfde druk vir 'n langer tydperk.

Dieselfde druk vir 'n langer tydperk.

Baie dankie!

I really like using Ball Propellants, but they seem to be less reliable in a few ways. I wish Somchem released a short cut granular propellant.

Sal 'n hoër lading die ontbranding verbeter, of moet 'n mens eerder 'n vinniger kruit gebruik?

Extruded = stafies (S335)

Ball = balletjies/korrels (S321)

Granular = vlokkies / blokkies?

Extruded can be cut to different lengths with the shorter end of the scale being what I would consider 'granular. The vlokkies/flake would be an MS200 kind of thing, i.e little papery disks that don't meter well in a powder measure.

What would "short cut granular" be?

Sorry mate that should have read - Short cut extruded, I am so used to calling it flake - ball and granular ;D

[deleted] OP

Do you want something between S265 and S335?

IMR 7828 SSC (Super short cut)

Yes, thats the one.

Get one of those little coffee grinders and some S365, and let me know how it goes ;)

What is also important is the ratio between case volume and caliber. A big case with a wide neck will require a faster powder, compared to the same case necked down. eg S335 is great in a 308 win, but S365 works better in .243 win.

Thanks a lot Folks!

I makes much more sense.

You will be surprised at how much difference small changes in a case dimensions and capacity can make
Why some powders do better in certain cartridge cases
QuickLOAD will indicate this when doing simulations

Have a look at what the powder column in early 458 Winchester rounds looked like

I lapped the bolt face of my 204Ruger. I must have taken off less than 0.1mm, and this was enough of an increase in head space (case capacity) to completely throw off my load. I had to add another 0.2gr to get the load back on track.

I think you removed more than you think, or there was some other factor involved.
